Thanks to an abundance of space to live and grow, Laguna provides you with a wealth of experiences to enjoy even in the comforts of home. In fact, you won’t find yourself lacking in ideas for both outdoor and indoor family activities.

In this article, we share five fun family activities that you can try today. These ideas are easy to customize so you can make the experience more exciting, and in the process, create new memories with family.

Host a themed picnic or barbecue

Outdoor dining is among the safest activities to do during a pandemic, but nothing can be more intimate than a picnic or barbecue with your own household in attendance. Picnics are an opportunity to get in touch with nature, and get some much-need sunlight in the process!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind. First, prepare meals that will not be messy to eat. Tea sandwiches, chilled pasta salads, hors d’oeuvres, pre-cut fruit, and small pastries are a few ideas to try. Moreover, choose dishes that you can serve cold or at room temperature like these make-ahead recipes. To make the spread even more enticing, include a variety of colorful ingredients. Think vibrant vegetables or sparkling water infused with thinly-sliced fruit and fresh herbs. Next, pack everything in a rustic wicker basket that comes with its own cutlery and dinnerware.

If you plan to do a barbecue instead, choose a small and portable grill that you can easily carry with you. Prep beforehand by marinating and glazing all proteins, pre-cutting bread buns, and packing side dishes. Don’t forget your gloves to keep your hands protected from heat.

Finally, pack a generous-sized picnic mat for everyone to relax on. Ideally, your mat should be fashioned from durable materials like waterproof nylon. If you can procure one, some mats come with sand pockets to prevent wind from blowing it away.

Now it’s time to find the perfect spot for your picnic or barbecue. You can of course opt to have the gathering in your own backyard or take it to your nearest park.

Enjoy an outdoor sport or meditation session

Exercising as a family is a fun way to bond while ensuring that everybody gets sufficient physical activity, but one mistake homeowners make is failing to maximize the amenities at one’s disposal.

If there is a fitness park near you, badminton, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee are some examples of fun games to try. If your community has a jogging path, running together is another easy activity that can be customized to any fitness level. As for indoor gym workouts or swimming, be sure to inquire with your community’s administration office or property manager regarding any safety guidelines that need to be observed.

Lastly, you need not limit yourself to high-energy activities. Yoga has been proven to improve heart health and decrease stress levels. Similar effects on mental well-being and overall health have been observed in meditation. You can use a variety of free apps to safely guide you and your family through a yoga or meditation session, whether you choose to do this indoors, in your garden, or even outdoors.

Dine Outdoors

Need a break from home cooking? Dining al fresco is your next best option for a safe dining experience. Not to mention, eating outdoors lets you take full advantage of the fresh Laguna air.

Find establishments close to home. More importantly, make sure that outdoor dining is being offered as an option. And as always, follow any safety guidelines currently in place.

Bond With Your Furry Friends

Just like us, our pets also need time to exercise and even socialize with other pets in the neighborhood. And like us, dogs that are taken outdoors can enjoy a host of health benefits including agility, weight management, and improved confidence. Studies have also shown that individuals who exercise with their pets are more likely to stick to a fitness regimen.

If you have access to expansive parks and green spaces, turn playtime and walks with your pets into a fun family activity that you can do regularly.

Go on a historical road trip

A road trip will take you out of your home, but with so many landmarks to see in Laguna, it’s worth doing a day trip to see these sites and get in touch with your heritage in the process. When planning your itinerary, make sure to call the destination beforehand to inquire about any safety guidelines or visitation restrictions.

Laguna is home to various historical spots. The Rizal Shrine tells the life story of the Philippine national hero and is designed like his childhood home. The Pila Heritage Site is a National Landmark that showcases Spanish-era houses. Finally, Laguna is home to a number of centuries-old churches that are as much a testament to old world architecture as they are a testament to a deeply Catholic heritage.

Among the oldest structures you can visit are the San Bartolome Apostol Parish Church, Saint John the Baptist Parish Church, and San Gregorio Magno Parish, which has been designated as a Level 1 National Cultural Treasure.
